Reflection – New Apartment Reveal

It’s finally time to share some initial photos of the new place! It’s still a work in progress, but these rooms are my favorite so far.

The first photo is of our entry way. The real oak chest which complements our cherry floors and dark mahogany doors is a hand-me-down from my Swedish grandmother. Not only does it add extra storage to the apartment, it’s the perfect place for a mail organizer and a key bowl (both from Marshall’s). I added a mercury glass lamp and round rope hanging mirror (both from Marshall’s) complete with some greenery to make it feel warm and inviting. The hammered umbrella bucket serves double duty as a place to bring some nature indoors by housing some branches, reflecting the physical movement of moving inside.

From there, we move into the living room. The white velvet couch is from the 1960s, and boy is it heavy. I love how the structured, clean lines of the couch contrasts the cowhide rug layered on top of the neutral handwoven rug (both from Wayfair). The coffee table is actually a TV stand and will be used for its original purpose once we get this amazing piece from AllModern. I love drinking coffee here on a Saturday morning or a glass of wine after a long day at work. I’ll be sure to post an updated photo on our Instagram page once it arrives! Oh and this plant stand? A Marshall’s purchase, got it for a steal due to a lack of price tag and my aloe plant loves it!

The dining room still needs some work, but it is probably the most complete thus far. The dining table is another hand-me-down, but from my Slovak Nanny this time. She had this in her family home in the 1970s (if you can’t tell by the checked wood table top). We replaced the legs with these metal angular ones to tailor more to our style. The white retro-style chairs (Wayfair) paired with our windsor chairs (Flea Market Find) combine our contemporary and modern influences nicely. The space wouldn’t be complete without some greenery! Our cactus and palm plants pop against the silver mirror triptic.

Lastly, is my favorite corner of the new apartment – our coffee bar. Though it is still a work in progress, I love the fact that I can keep all of my tea and coffee necessities all in a bright, clean nook. I can’t wait to update this space and really make it part of my morning ritual.

Like I mentioned earlier, though there is still work to do, this place feels more like a home each and every day. To me, one of the best feelings in the world is coming home after an amazing adventure. I look forward to this feeling in the near future, as we continue our traveling soon!
